A Wicked Theme Party, “Four Good”!
February 24, 2025
How we are here again I will never know, but it is that time of year to celebrate our youngest as she turns FOUR. Wicked has become a crowd-pleaser in this household (especially for Lemmie) so naturally we knew how we would be celebrating! We had barely taken down Christmas decor before she was running around saying “wicked party! wicked party!). I know party planning can feel really overwhelming, but I have some tips and tricks on how to make magic happen on a budget with a very busy schedule!

Step 1: the theme

Well Glinda, let me tell ya, first we pick a theme! Doing this really puts a laser focus on everything. It’s easier to only see party items through colour wheels and creative twists. It’s how you make cream cheese dip turn into a witch hat, and pretzel sticks into wands. You can take all of your favourite party snacks and adjust them accordingly, but no grass … Elphaba did not eat grass as a child … stop asking her!

Step 1: Gathering Inspo
Lean on the Wizard! (and by Wizard I mean Pinterest…) Not only is it full of great inspo for literally anything you type in, it often has direct links to where you can get it or the necessary supplies! Pinterest has created a community for planners, artists, busy parents and people who decide to try and make every single party as magical as their mother did for them as a child …. I DIGRESS. Make a board, search your theme and pin some fun games, backdrops, and DIYS. No thinking required! Thanks Wizard!

Step 3: Let’s Do This
Third, everyone deserves the chance to fly … and not drown in the sea of chaos. Outsource what you can and ask for help. A lot of the small stuff I was able to get off of Amazon (I’ll link what I can) and it was here the next day. My mom was a huge help, and from building the emerald city to finding somewhere that made green and pink bread to make sandwiches as well as my dad came early to help Shane hang the things that needed to be hung! The older kids all contributed to the food display and helping host, too. I got a plain cake at Costco ($20) and decorated it myself saving me lots of money! It took a village but remember they all wanted to do it for Lemmie, so don’t hesitate to ask for help where you can.

Step 4: Enjoy
This brings me to my final point, and I think the most important one as a mother. Be present. Watching the joy on her face while she took it all in was something I’m so happy I didn’t miss. It is so easy to get caught up in wanting to make sure your guests are having fun, or that everyone’s drink is full but I’m telling you right now that just because you’re always made out to be the wizard, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the magic yourself.

The enemy has always been time, and it is fleeting. So fill a room with people you love, celebrate everything, and if Elphaba has taught me anything – it’s that nothing is permanent in this wicked world, not even our troubles. From flying monkeys and special appearances, we made it all happen without much stress. Though I wish it wasn’t so, our little Lems is defying three, four good!
Now, we didn’t just DIY it ENTIRELY…
Entertainment was hired out to Little Jingle Beans who put on an unbelievable 75-minute performance and entertainment for guests of all ages. It felt like we were inside a broadway show! While it was an added cost, it was an incredible value for the talent and the production that was put on for every guest.

While much of what you see was actually homemade/crafted, borrowed, re-used and some dollarstore materials as well for anything we lacked (like pink and green tablecloths and plates) but we’re sharing all the things you CAN purchase in the link below!

For gift takeaways: in lieu of gift bags, we gifted each child a Wicked book, and Lemmie made them each a friendship bracelet!
